Lakes Info & News At the present time we have focused mainly on Lake Istokpoga because it is the most popular lake in Highlands county for all types of lake users, and also is Florida's 5th largest lake. We determined that Istokpoga would make an excellent organization "focus model" by which we could form a platform to grow, mature and operate as a Florida non-for-profit organization which serves individual lake communities. Currently within our membership, few have the time to devote to collecting information from online government lake management websites and attend lake management County meetings, both which provide the public with current facts, information, and data. From the point of acquiring necessary information, a personal pro-active relationship needs to be created and maintained by SOS Lake-Community Committees, formed based on each individual lake's user issues and concerns, and existing management programs already in progress. Many lake communities in several counties have expressed the desire to become involved with SOS Florida Lakes. Polk, Okeechobee, Glades, and Lake County all have concerned citizens ready to become involved in an organization which has a record of success; working to get issues addressed, problems solved, and cultivate pro-active responsible congenial government / citizen relationships "Work Together To Create Lake Management At Its Finest to Save Our Source of Florida Lakes" State Counties, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Department of Environmental Protection, Water Management Divisions, US Army Corp of Engineers, and US Fish and Game, provide extensive public education about their lake management plans and subsequent results. Most lakes are monitored in part or whole by these organization. Acquiring this information takes time and effort which most people don't have. However, if you have time to devote to your favorite lake and would like to provide us with information regarding that lake, please contact us so that we might include your work here for our membership and the public to benefit from. Please use the links on the left side navigation bar to access information regarding specific lakes. As other lake information becomes available we will create web pages for that particular lake, it all depends on the time you have to contribute for "our" benefit. |
| We need your support, so please donate today. If membership fees and donations don't come in before the New Year, we will dissolve the organization for lack of funds and interest. |
